Byzantium Travel and Tours
Founded in 1982 and based in Limassol, Byzantium Travel & Tours Ltd is a destination management company specializing in French-speaking groups visiting Cyprus. Directed by Giulia and Costas Stavrou, the company is known for its professionalism, personalized service, and deep knowledge of the island.
With a dedicated French-speaking, Byzantium Travel ensures seamless organization and attentive support throughout each stay. Over the years, the agency has developed a rich program of cultural excursions in collaboration with some of Cyprus’s most experienced guides, offering meaningful encounters with the island’s history, landscapes, and people.
Limassol, centrally located between Larnaca and Paphos airports, provides the ideal base for exploration. From here, carefully designed itineraries allow travelers to discover Cyprus in comfort, with short travel times and a private, air-conditioned coach, accompanied by the same driver and guide throughout the journey.

Cyprus: Landscape, Climate, and Trail Environment
Geography and Terrain
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Its landscape is defined by two main mountain ranges — the Troodos Mountains in the interior and the Kyrenia range to the north — separated by the central Mesaoria plain.
The Troodos Mountains form the heart of the island’s trail network, offering forest paths, alpine terrain, and remote rural routes shaped by centuries of human and natural history. Elevations range from sea level coastal trails to the island’s highest peak, Mount Olympus, at 1,952 metres.
Climate
Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers and mild winters. Trail activities are possible year-round, with seasonal variation across elevation zones.
Spring and autumn offer ideal conditions across most terrains, while summer activities are best suited to higher elevations in the Troodos Mountains, where temperatures remain significantly cooler. Winter brings snow to the highest peaks, creating a unique alpine environment within the Mediterranean region.
Flora and Fauna
Cyprus hosts a diverse range of plant and animal life, particularly in the Troodos forests, which are home to endemic species such as the Cyprus cedar and Troodos pine. Wild herbs, oak forests, and seasonal wildflowers define much of the trail environment.
Wildlife includes mouflon (the native wild sheep of Cyprus), foxes, hares, and a wide variety of migratory and resident bird species. These ecosystems form an integral part of the trail experience.
Cultural Landscape
The island’s trail networks often follow ancient footpaths connecting villages, agricultural terraces, monasteries, and historic trade routes. These paths reflect Cyprus’ layered cultural history and ongoing relationship between landscape and human movement.
Population and Language
Cyprus has a population of approximately 1.2 million people. The official languages are Greek and Turkish, with English also widely.
The capital city is Nicosia, located centrally within the island.

I have been running for several years, developing a deeper connection with trail running more seriously in recent years. Through training runs and races, I have explored diverse regions of Cyprus across different seasons, experiencing the island’s terrain in an intimate and evolving way.
My relationship with the landscape began early, spending much of my youth hiking the mountains and countryside of Cyprus. These experiences shaped my understanding of the terrain and instilled a lasting respect for the natural environment.
Living and training on these trails has given me firsthand knowledge of their character, rhythm, and challenges. Culture Trails was created from a desire to share this experience with others — to offer journeys that combine movement, landscape, and cultural discovery through the trail networks of Cyprus.
